Didier Drogba Scores Another Pinpoint Free Kick vs. Colorado Rapids

Didier Drogba continues to tear up MLS since moving from Chelsea in the summer, scoring via a free kick as Montreal Impact took on Colorado on Saturday night. The Ivory Coast veteran could scarcely have hit the latest free kick any better, and the scale of his achievements were summed up neatly on Twitter by his club: Didier #Drogba: 9 goals in 9 games 6 goals in last 6 games A goal in 5 of last 6 games Already 7th all-time with #IMFC in #MLS — Impact de Montréal (@impactmontreal) October 10, 2015 [@Ben_Jata] Read more MLS news on BleacherReport.com

New York Red Bulls Troll Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard in Derby with City

New York City FC have signed some huge names this summer, but that doesn't stop crosstown rivals New York Red Bulls having a laugh at their expense. Red Bulls fans held up a huge banner dedicated to the "City Retirement Home," featuring a picture of Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo hobbling around on walking sticks. And they backed up the banner with a 2-0 win—with both Lampard and Pirlo starting for the visitors. [Fox Soccer]Read more MLS news on BleacherReport.com

MLS Recreates Andrea Pirlo as a Doll to Celebrate His Arrival at NYCFC

You have one of the most cultured players of recent times arrive in your league—the only sensible thing to do is make a doll of him that you can dress in different attire. That's what the MLS has done for Andrea Pirlo, now of New York City Football Club. They've created the "Pirdoll." You can put him in his new kit, his old Juventus shirt or even the Italy blue. And if he's got an important engagement, there's always the suit, or even his architect gear. So what do you think: No Pirdoll, no party? [MLS]Read more MLS news on BleacherReport.com

Kaka Still Highest-Earning MLS Player After Arrivals of Lampard, Gerrard, Pirlo

Ricardo Kaka is still the biggest earner in Major League Soccer, despite a flurry of new arrivals to the division, including Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Andrea Pirlo. MLS release salary figures for all of their players—a different approach to, say, the Premier League—and it gives an insight into how much stars are earning.  There are a total of 21 players in the league currently earning seven figures or more. For those deciphering the list, Sports Illustrated explain the "Guaranteed Compensation" figure: Guaranteed compensation takes into account base salary and signing and guaranteed bonuses annualized over the term of the player's contract (including option years). Marketing bonuses, performance bonuses and other individual agreements between players and clubs are separate and not listed. For summer arrivals, their deals are pro-rated.  Kaka, who earns $7,167,500 with Orlando City, per the figures, beats Sebastian Giovinco of Toronto by a narrow margin into second. Gerrard, now of the L.A. Galaxy, earns $6,332,504, while Frank Lampard's earnings at New York City FC are an even $6,000,000. One surprise, though, is how low Pirlo's figure is relative to the others. His earnings are quoted at $2,315,694. [MLS, h/t Sports Illustrated]    Read more MLS news on BleacherReport.com

Steven Gerrard is set to join Los Angeles Galaxy next month, but in California, the former England captain is already starting to appear on billboards. New York City FC Matches Come with Song Sheets

New MLS team New York City have got to build up a tradition, and the plan to inspire the likes of David Villa and (soon) Frank Lampard to hit the heights includes song sheets with chants for every game. For fans in England, that sort of thing doesn't sit right. Being told to sing, "You might have some history, but we don't give a crud" (yes, "crud"), might seem a bit patronising. And it probably won't take long to learn the words to "N...Y...C...*clap*." But it's (almost) all forgiven for this Mix Diskerud Kiss tribute: "I, wanna Diskerud all night, and party every day!" Sebastian Giovinco Deceives Goalkeeper Before Curling in Free Kick for Toronto

Free kicks are usually all about skill, but Sebastian Giovinco showed for Toronto FC that it's possible to add a little showmanship and theatrics to the mix as well. The Italian pointed one way before he struck the dead ball against FC Dallas, suggesting his mind was elsewhere, before cheekily whipping the ball into the corner.
