Cruz Azul Comes from Behind To Defeat Real Salt Lake in CONCACAF Game

Real Salt Lake faced Cruz Azul in the CONCACAF Champions League on a very rainy day in Estadio Azul in Mexico. The referee was Oscar Moncada and Cruz Azul needed a victory to at least depart from the competition with dignity. Cruz Azul was true to form when winning one game then losing another game. The worst part is losing in its home stadium to Real Salt Lake. It was able to score one goal by Javier Antonio Orozco Penuelas within four minutes of the game. Cruz Azul started to play mediocre at best and unable to play coherently in the rain. The end result were mistakes that lead to a yellow card for Maximiliano Biancuchi and Horacio Cervantes. Real Salt Lake made its presence felt with its dominance of the game and being able to play even with heavy rain. The team was disciplined and consistent as well as organized in defense and offense. The team was all over Estadio Azul, with Alvaro Saborio scoring the first goal on the basis of a penalty within 22 minutes. Alvaro Saborio remained on the defensive and was able to pass the ball to his fellow teammates. He was able to place the ball in the ...

Columbus Crew Were Robbed of Goal During the CONCACAF Champions League

The venerable Mexican team Santos faced Columbus Crew in the CONCACAF Champions League. While Santos managed to score a goal within the last minute of the game, the whole affair is an insult to football/soccer lovers everywhere. Renteria scored the first goal of the game for the Columbus Crew by kicking the ball into the center of the goal net in the first half. The response of the referee was to annul the goal using as an excuse that he returned to the field without permission. Anyone can see that this was a legitimate goal, and it could have made a difference in the results of the Crew in the CONCACAF Champions League. It is the same methods used by referees during the 2010 World Cup against the US Soccer team. The question that is often asked is the following: Are referees biased against a team or a country because they are afraid or because of pure hatred? I think that we should ask FIFA or those who train referees to be fair and impartial.Read more MLS news on BleacherReport.com

The Seattle Sounders FC lost to Marathon in the CONCACAF Champions League, after they began the game with a goal by Roger Levesque within the first 17 minutes. Freddy Montero took advantage of an error by one of the Marathon defenders to pass the ball to Roger Levesque, who made a right foot kick into the left side of the net. The Sounders then started to feel relaxed during the game which was a mistake. Orvin Paz of Marathon took advantage of an opening in the goal post to score an equalizer with a right foot kick into the left edge corner in 27 minutes. Nicolas Cardozo applied the final nail to the hopes of the Seattle Sounders by scoring the second goal for Marathon on the basis of a penalty. Marathon appeared dominant at home at their stadium, Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. They were consistent and united throughout the match. The Seattle Sounders appeared to be clueless as to what was happening and were disorganized in defense and passing the ball. The end result saw Marathon receive three points in Group C of the CONCACAF Champions League. Monterrey received the same points in the same group. The Sounders ended their nine ...

Philadelphia Union Holds Colorado at Bay

The Phildaelphia Union managed to avoid losing to the Colorado Rapids with an equalizer. Mwanga received the ball from Le Toux and then proceeded with a right foot kick into the left side of the goal net in 73 minutes. The equalizer was done at a close range surprising Le Toux, Mwanga, and the goalie for Colorado Pickens. It also gave a much needed boost to a team whose first MLS Season left it at the bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference. It was a classic response to the first goal of the game by Larentowicz for the Rapids in 59 minutes after kicking the ball from a far distance to the left side of the net surprising Seitz who was the goalie for the Union. The Union and Rapids gave the crowd at PP, Stadium in Chester, Pennsylvania a very exciting game competing for possession. It was a game that was fought with every moves although some mistakes cost the Rapids some yellow cards. Both teams also made mistakes in their attempts to score by losing the ball or kicking above the goal post. Regardless, it was a great game with Le Toux being the most valued player. New England Revolution Wipes Out Puebla FC On Penalty Kicks

The Superliga 2010 Semifinals between the New England Revolution and Puebla FC was a classic clash of the football/soccer titans of North America. The result was a 1-1 tie between the two teams in regular time with the game determined by penalty kicks. The first goal was scored by Mansally for the Revs at 55 minutes with a left-foot kick into the left lateral area of the net. The response of Puebla was fast with Olivera scoring an equalizer with a right-footed kick from distance toward the center of the goal. Before the goals, the game was lacking in excitement as both teams measured their strength. Afterward, the game was then a struggle for possession of the game between the two teams as they attempted to score another goal. It was not to be as the game went into penalties with both teams scoring goals until Lugo failed to score for Puebla. Mansally finally scored the winning goal with another left-footed kick into the goal and New England made Superliga 2010 history by advancing to the finals. New England will face either the winner of the Houston Dynamos and Morelia Monarcas in the finals. New England Revolution 1 (5) - 1 (3) Puebla ...

Beckham May Not Return to A.C.Milan

Massimo Allegri who is the coach for the Italian Team AC Milan announced that he believes David Beckham "will not return to AC Milan for the third time." David Beckham played for Manchester United and Real Madrid before playing for LA Galaxy. Beckham was loaned by the LA Galaxy to A.C. Milan with the intention of keeping him in shape during the off-season of Major League Soccer. Mr. Allegri also insinuated that Beckham may not return since he is recuperating from an injury of the Achille's Tendon which sidelined him in the 2010 World Cup. While Beckham was present in the pre-season game between A.C. Milan and Arsenal, which ended in a draw, many people have expressed doubts about the future of the football/soccer astro. The US Latin Station Univision has conducted a survey about whether or not Beckham is able to recuperate his style if he also decided to return to the MLS. I would like to ask the readers about their opinion on the future of Beckham.Read more MLS news on BleacherReport.com

CONCACAF Champions League: Seattle Sounders 1-0 Isidro Metapan

Seattle Sounders managed to defeat the visiting team of Isidro Metapan of El Salvador by one goal. Freddy Montero of Sounders was able to score within 60 minutes with a 40 meter center kick that surprised the Isidro Metapan goalkeeper Misael Alfaro who allowed the ball to go into his net. Freddy Montero scored his sixth goal for the Sounders in the 2010 Season with this goal after replacing Nate Jacqua. The game itself was intense, with the Sounders dominating from the beginning with their consistency and discipline. The Sounders also had the hometown advantage against one of the most powerful teams in El Salvador. Reagrdless of such advantages, there were failed attempts at scoring a goal before Montero. James Riley who is the fullback to the Sounders was able to strike through the right flank and play the ball to Nyassi. Nyassi was then able to connect with Montano who then allowed the ball to go off the intended target. Osvaldo Alonso was able to take a free kick from the 18 yard box edge after a dangerous kick by Eirck Prado who is the defender for Metapan but it was deflected. US Soccer Needs More Air Time

Introduction and Disclaimer: I am writing this article not to criticize the other teams playing in the 2010 World Cup. My purpose is to promote a team that is participating in this historical sporting event but is ignored by the mainstream media. The team is the US Soccer Team.    The 2010 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to start in South Africa in 109 days. The countries that are participating have prepared their commercials to promote their teams. The only exception to the rule in my opinion is the USA. The USA is in Group C against England, Algeria, and Slovenia and the media in this country has not mentioned the US Soccer Team. The telephone giant AT&T has a commercial with the Spanish singer David Bisbal promoting his country with its uniform. In the same AT&T commercial, Thalia, who is a singer and actress from Mexico, dressed in the uniform of her team. Both are singing the praises of their countries. In the end, AT&T promotes itself as the official sponsor the Mexican National Soccer Team.  Home Depot has also promoted the Mexican National Soccer Team in another commercial. The commercial shows a game and then one of the players promoting Home Depot in a ...
