New York Red Bulls Extend Winless Streak to Six Games

The drought continues for the New York Red Bulls. Since their victory over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, April 30 the Red Bulls have gone 0-2-5 in their last six games.Despite missing five of their regular starters due to their international call-ups, the Red Bulls were literary seconds away from a win until tragedy struck. For over 80 minutes, the Red Bulls led since Medhi Ballouchy's goal in the ninth minute. Ironically, Ballouchy ill-timed turnover started the domino effect for the Red Bulls.Just when it appeared the winless drought was about to end, Jeff Cunningham recovered the ball off Ballouchy's turnover. From there Cunningham proceeded to pass the ball to Shaun Francis and seconds later Columbus Crew rookie Rich Balchan scored the equalizer of a crisp laser pass from Justin Meram. The flustered expression on Red Bulls goalkeeper Greg Sutton after allowing the goal symbolized the feeling Red Bulls fans have been feeling for the past seven games. Moments later the Red Bulls and Columbus Crew match resulted in a 1-1 draw. For the Crew (3-3-6), Saturday night's match was almost as good as a win.Despite being in second place in the Eastern Conference, there hasn't been any evidence that the ...

New York Red Bulls vs Vancouver Whitecaps: 1-1 Draw Results in Winless May

In a game where both teams desperately needed a win, both the New York Red Bulls and the Vancouver Whitecaps ended the month of May winless as both teams battled to a 1-1 draw. For the Vancouver Whitecaps, this may have well been a win for them. Playing in front of 21,000 home fans at the Empire Field, the Whitecaps demonstrated to their fans that while they may have the worst record in the league, it doesn't mean that they're a horrible team. For the Red Bulls, this was the third straight game where an opposing opponent was awarded a penalty kick. The culprit this time was the Red Bulls' Carlos Menedes who clearly fouled Camilo from behind. Moments later, Eric Hassli gave Whitecaps fans a reason to cheer when he converted a penalty kick in the 24th minute of the match.Despite playing without Dane Richards and their Designated Player duo of Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez, the Red Bulls didn't buckle under the deficit. Luke Rodgers demonstrated why many Red Bulls fans believe he may be the team MVP, tying the game at 1-1 in the 34th minute. For the remainder of the game, both teams missed their opportunity ...

New York Red Bulls vs Colorado Rapids: Red Bulls Lack Killer Instinct in 2-2 Tie

Harrison, NJ - A year ago many Red Bulls fans would have been ecstatic with a 2-2 tie over the defending MLS Cup Champions at home.A year ago, Red Bulls fans would have been proud of the Red Bulls for overcoming Rapids' Jeff Larentowicz brace in a draw. However that's not the case in 2011 as 18,081 in attendance witnessed the New York Red Bulls tie the MLS Cup defending champions 2-2 at Red Bull Arena. While Wednesday night's draw may have earned them a first place tie with the Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference, the Red Bulls have been playing horrifically for their past three games. It would have understandable if Wednesday night's game was a road game but that wasn't the case. It didn't matter that Red Bulls squared off a Colorado team that was unbeaten in their previous five games.Wednesday night was no exception as New York was dominated statistically by Colorado. The defending champions out-shot the Red Bulls 16-10 while having a 10-6 shots on goal advantage. To make matters worse, the Red Bulls never led in the game. The six spectacular minutes of four goals scoring in first half isn't going to cover up the facts that ...

New York Red Bulls vs Houston Dynamo: Eastern Conference Foes Battle to a Draw

Houston, TX- Needing to rebound from last week's 3-2 loss to Chivas USA, the Red Bulls (4-2-4) responded with a 2-2 tie. All it took for New York was a minute to demonstrate that they weren't going to lose on Saturday night.Accepting a well-placed pass from Luke Rodgers who seconds earlier handled a long pass from Teemu Tainio, Dane Richards kicked off things for the Red Bulls when he slammed home his second goal of the season within first the 39 seconds of the game. With the score already 1-0, the Dynamo crowd was momentarily silenced.Fortunately for Dynamo fans, Brad Davis leveled the game when he converted his penalty kick in the 12th minute. From that time, the game was even until forward Koke broke stalemate in the 82nd minute knocking in his first goal of the season off the rebound of Geoff Cameron's header.Just as it appeared that the Dynamo (3-3-5) was going to give their 25,314 fans at Robertson Stadium the victory, Medhi Ballouchy's headed in a spectacular equalizer in stoppage time off a Joel Lindpere corner kick. With virtually little time to mount a game-winning goal, the game resulted in a 2-2 draw. While ...

New York Red Bulls vs. Chivas USA: Braun Triumphs 3-2 over Hopeless Red Bulls

The only thing missing tonight at Red Bull Arena was Hope. On the night that Red Bull Arena entered the Twilight Zone, Hope was nowhere to be found in Red Bull Arena. Their four-game unbeaten streak abruptly came to an end as the Red Bulls were humbled 3-2 by Chivas USA.No matter how loud and proud the South Ward enthusiastically chanted, they simply sounded hopeless. While there was no Hope, there was plenty of Braun to to go around. In layman terms, whatever chances the Red Bulls had of winning against Chivas USA was gone because there was no Hope within the confines of Red Bull Arena. When South Ward member, Hope sadly informed the rest of her colleagues that she wasn't going to attend the game may have inadvertently determined the fate of her beloved New York Red Bulls. It's understandable if some of you considers this to be absurd but the proof is in the pudding.Just as the game was about to go underway, Red Bull Arena experienced a power surge. Was it a power surge or the spirits of the RBA expressing their sadness about Hope's absence? Who knows? As a result, the game was delayed by 31 minutes. ...

Red Bulls Academy Battle Cosmos Academy East for the First Time on Mother’s Day

Aviator Field, Brooklyn - For the first time ever, Red Bulls and Cosmos fans alike were treated to an afternoon doubleheader of soccer at Aviator Field as they watched the New York Red Bulls Academy U-18 and U-16 teams face their river rival, the Cosmos Academy East.On a Mother's Day that was beautiful and warm, both Cosmos and Red Bulls fans witnessed each team record a victory over the other. As families ushered themselves to the stands, every mother in attendance was given a yellow carnation in honor of their day. While the gesture was nice and endearing, I believe the fans in attendance could've used a little more cowbell. Granted there was a fan with his vuvuzela but it's really annoying when it's only one individual literally tooting his own horn. Plus, it's a tool used to disrupt one team's flow.As crazy as this may sound, one of the best things about watching a soccer game at a place like Aviator Field is that you're gonna want that cowbell on the track. Nothing is more enticing than watching two teams move the ball and hearing the powerful tapping sound of a cowbell every time the ball is passed. If you enjoy ...
