Beckham and Juninho Lift LA Galaxy to 2-0 Win over Vancouver Whitecaps

With their troubled start to the season an increasingly fading memory, the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night.L.A.'s Brazilian midfielder, Juninho, opened the scoring just before halftime when he blasted one from 35 yards out, beating Caps keeper Brad Knighton to find the top corner and make it 1-0 in the 41st."Juni’s been doing that a lot recently in training and in games," David Beckham said afterwards. "When he’s got his shooting boots on there’s not many goalkeepers that can stop him."It was Beckham who eventually doubled L.A.'s lead in the 79th minute.Robbie Keane was bundled over on the edge of the 18, and L.A. was awarded a free kick from 20 yards out. The former England midfielder and renowned dead-ball specialist stepped up to the mark and put his shot over the wall into the back of the net, leaving Knighton absolutely flat-footed to make it 2-0 Galaxy. The goal was Beckham's sixth in a period of just eight games."I'm not usually scoring that many," said the former Manchester United man. "But I'll take it."Keane also found the back of the net earlier in the game. However, his 32nd-minute effort was disallowed ...

MLS: LA Galaxy Trade Paolo Cardozo for Chivas Defender David Junior Lopes

In an apparent attempt to shuffle the deck defensively after what has been an abysmal start to their season, the LA Galaxy have traded Paolo Cardozo to Chivas USA for defender David Junior Lopes.Cardozo is a 22-year-old Uruguayan who was formerly with Argentinian side River Plate's reserve team, Quilmes. After briefly going on trial with the Columbus Crew, Cardozo was chosen by the Galaxy in the first round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. The slightly-built attacking midfielder made a total of 18 appearances for the reigning MLS champs, registering a total of nine shots on goal but failing to find the back of the net or make an assist while wearing a Galaxy shirt.Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena is apparently willing to take a chance on missing out on the potential that the forward displayed at times in an effort to shore up the Galaxy's badly ailing defense.A Brazilian-born defender who stands at 6'3", Lopes would seem like an apparent suitor for filling the gaping hole left in the Galaxy's back line by the absence of Omar Gonzalez. The 23-year-old Gonzalez suffered a long term injury during an offseason training loan with Bundesliga side Nurnberg, and the 2011 MLS Defender of ...

David Beckham Loan Extended As Galaxy Plan Alliance With Tottenham Spurs

Tim Leiweke has been a busy guy lately. Last month, the AEG president and Galaxy owner unveiled a massive project for a new NFL stadium to be built in downtown LA. This week, he spoke to reporters in England via conference call and revealed that David Beckham’s training loan to Tottenham is possibly just the beginning of a new partnership between the clubs. “We have an existing relationship now,” said Leiweke. “Strategically you’ll see more of an alliance between us and Tottenham.” According to a report on ESPN Los Angeles, this partnership has the potential to include “player movement between the clubs.” As Leiweke put it, “We are beginning to think outside of the box on football, whether that’s David Beckham training with Spurs or maybe players from Tottenham coming to Galaxy.” Leiweke, who is also involved in the Houston Dynamo and the Chicago Fire, also hinted there might be a summer friendly played between the clubs. Leiweke also said he encouraged Beckham to go on loan with Tottenham in order to bolster the Galaxy’s relationship with Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman. “There are other examples of conversations we’ve had with Daniel,“ he said. “In how to take that kind of cooperation and extend it to our team ...

Landon Donovan: ‘I Want to Be More Dangerous in Front of Goal’

(Carson, CA)—Landon Donovan spoke to members of the press at the LA Galaxy's preseason training camp at the Home Depot Center in Carson on Wednesday. Despite widespread speculation about him joining an EPL club, the Team USA player had foregone his usual training loan in Europe to rest after a busy 2010. “This is the first time I can remember where I had enough time to really get antsy to play again. I’m excited to be back and see new faces and to start up again, and that hasn’t happened in a while.” Donovan spoke about the turnover in the Galaxy’s attack during the offseason, specifically the departure of the Galaxy’s leading goal scorer last season, Edson Buddle, and the arrival of former Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel from the New York Red Bulls. “There’s no question that losing Edson hurts. We’re obviously very happy for him and to see him score in his first game was great. As people who are distributing the ball to your attacking players, you want the guy who always wants the ball and wants the ball in a good position and puts himself in a good position so he can be dangerous, and Edson became very good ...

Los Angeles Galaxy: New-Look Club Begins To Take Shape After MLS SuperDraft

It's been a week of big changes for the Los Angeles Galaxy.  Midfielder David Beckham again seems to have put his own needs before those of the people who sign his paycheck by ramrodding through his training loan with Tottenham Hotspur despite protestations from the club.  Meanwhile, back in Los Angeles, there have been major departures from the Galaxy camp. Monday it was announced that Galaxy striker and principal goal-getter Edson Buddle has left the club on a free transfer to join FC Ingolstadt in the second division of the German Bundesliga.  Buddle, who was part of the USA's World Cup team this summer, has been with the Galaxy since 2007.  2010 was Buddle's best season as a professional player.  He scored a total of 17 goals and for a time was the league's leading scorer before ultimately being overtaken by Chris Wondolowski of the San Jose Earthquakes. In his own statement, Buddle said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Los Angeles and will miss my teammates, coaches, staff and everyone who works for the club as they helped make me the player that I am today. I also want to thanks all of the great Galaxy fans who have supported me ...
